A 1-year-old beagle mix named Pete got lost in New York City after his leash broke during a walk in Brooklyn. Instead of panicking, he ran about a mile and independently made his way to his favorite dog daycare, Pooch Play and Stay.

Staff were surprised when Pete arrived alone at the entrance and let him inside. He was dirty but otherwise safe, and they quickly contacted his owners and gave him a bath. His owners took him to the vet, where he was found to have only minor scratches.

Pete was reunited with his family the same day and returned to daycare the next day, acting happy and unfazed. The daycare later celebrated his intelligence and determination by naming him “Dog of the Week.”
